Our training

We are an approved Assessment Centre to deliver the Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA) award with Newbattle Abbey College as the awarding body.

FOLA is tailored to the Scottish curriculum and is a Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) accredited qualification.

FOLA Levels 2-4 are suitable for younger learners from age 10 upwards and cover nature conservation, working with tools, fire safety and arts and crafts.

FOLA Levels 5, 6 & 8 are leadership awards for learners aged 16 plus (18 for Level 8) working towards becoming a Forest School Leader.

Bespoke Training

We can provide training sessions for small groups or staff teams in subject areas like tool use and fire safety.  We can also provide discovery sessions which are aimed at building confidence in outdoor learning.

School Groups

The Forest and Outdoor Learning Award is tailored to the Scottish curriculum and is a Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) accredited qualification. Earthtime is an approved Assessment Centre to deliver the award with Newbattle Abbey College as the awarding body.

The course covers nature conservation, working with tools, fire safety and arts and crafts. We can run the course with 40 hours of learning taking place through 2 hour sessions over 20 weeks.

Assessments are flexible to meet the needs of the learner. FOLA Levels 2-4 are suitable from age 10 upwards.

Adult Learners

FOLA Levels 2 – 5 are great for adults of all abilities and backgrounds who want to learn about nature conservation, fire safety and woodland exploration.

FOLA Levels 6-8 are best for adults who already have a background in working with children and young people or are working in the outdoors, or intending to work in this area.
